Here's our simple 7 step process to setting up your Instagram and Facebook accounts

If you run a business, be it a local café, an online shop, or a personal brand, having a professional presence on Instagram and Facebook is essential. Not only does it make you look credible, but it also gives you access to powerful tools like analytics, advertising and post scheduling.

The good news? Setting up business accounts is straightforward.

Step 1: Make sure you have personal accounts Instagram and Facebook first

To create a business account on either platform, you’ll need a personal profile to get started.

  • Instagram – download the app and sign up with your email, phone number or Facebook login.

  • Facebook – go to facebook.com and create a personal account if you don’t have one already.

Step 2: Create your Facebook business page

Your Facebook Business Page is your company’s public profile on Facebook.

  1. Log in to your personal account.

  2. Go to Menu → Pages → Create New Page.

  3. Add your business namecategory (e.g. pub, hair salon, builder) and a short description. For latest music select entrepreneur and remember to hide from viewers.

  4. Upload a profile picture (usually your logo) and a cover photo (something that represents your business).

  5. Fill out key details: website, contact info, opening hours.

  6. Click Create Page and you’re live.

Step 3: Create your Instagram business account

You can either:

  • Convert an existing personal Instagram account into a business account or

  • Start fresh with a new business account.

To switch to a business account:

  1. Go to your Instagram profile.

  2. Tap Menu → Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account.

  3. Choose Business (not Creator).

  4. Select your business category and add your contact info.

Step 4: Connect Instagram and Facebook

Linking your accounts unlocks Meta’s full suite of tools and makes it easier to post across both platforms.

  1. On Facebook, go to your Page settings.

  2. Find Linked Accounts and connect your Instagram account.

  3. Confirm the link on Instagram when prompted.

Step 5: Set up Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite (also called Meta Business Manager) is your control hub for both platforms. It lets you schedule posts, reply to messages, and track performance in one place.

  1. Go to business.facebook.com.

  2. Log in and select your Facebook Page.

  3. Add your Instagram account under Settings → Connected Accounts.

Step 6: optimise your profiles

Your business account is more than just a logo, it’s your digital shop window.

  • Bio/About section - be clear and concise about what you do.

  • Call-to-action buttons - like ‘call now’ or ‘book now’ to make it easy for customers to reach you.

  • Consistent branding - use the same colours, tone and style across both platforms.

Step 7: Start posting with purpose

Before posting your first photo or video, plan your content:

  • Mix promotional posts (products/services) with value posts (tips, behind-the-scenes, testimonials).

  • Use high-quality images and clear captions.

  • Post consistently - even 2–3 times a week is better than bursts followed by silence.

Final tip

Don’t just set up your accounts and leave them. Engage with followers, reply to comments and keep your content fresh. Over time, your Instagram and Facebook business accounts will become powerful tools for building your audience and growing your brand.
